A Visual Journey #28

Windows on life.

This began with a coat of gesso and when dry I stamped some old la blanche stamps on the pages and on spare paper and used removable tape to add them as a mask.

I love laying my first layer of colour down using a babywipe, it can give a very soft blended hue or be applied much heavier to give that deep and vibrant blend of colour. I used rusty hinge, barn door and vintage photo distress paint.

After drying the light layer of paint I didn't want to waste what was left on my craft mat so I sprayed it with water and dipped and dried the pages several times.

Whilst the stamped images were still masked I used DecoArt white crackle paste and laid down some brick texture adding in some more of the colours used in the background.

This produces fabulous crackles in quite a short while.

I used my own made up misters to add colour depth around the textured areas.

Then removed the masks to 'paint' in the images using distress markers and inks.

Somehow I omitted to take photos of the next two stages where I added some stencilling using DIs and some light stamping using the new hickory smoke DI. A typed and printed quote added to finish it off.

People are like stained - glass windows.

They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,

but when the darkness sets in,

their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

Have a great end to the week.
