I had a request from some of the ladies at The Art of Craft
where I do some workshops, they wanted to make a ‘pretty’ box. So having chosen
some lovely Graphic 45 papers to play with and having a play with the jumbo
tattered florals die this is what I came up with.
The box was first painted with white acrylic paint, dried and then a peach colour, this gave us the base to work on. We used Graphic 45 Secret Garden papers to cover the box on the outside ……
…. and on the inside.
After the papers had been, cut, torn and glued on securely I dry-brushed the papers with white acrylic paint to take off that new look and added some lace which I had painted.
We used a Memory Box stencil and Dreamweaver crackle paste, it produces these gorgeous small cracks when heat dried. I was going to rub over with walnut stain distress ink but I thought it would grunge it up too much, so left it white.
Even the bottom of the box was covered with the G45 papers…….
…. and the base of the lid.
The big shabby rose was made with card, coloured with distress inks and cut from both the tattered florals and jumbo tattered florals dies, I used 12 layers of four different sized petals in total and was inspired by Paula Cheney who made one similar to this and put up a great tutorial on her blog – One Lucky day. On the bottom layers of the petals I used fired brick and graduated upwards using, victorian velvet, tattered rose and then antique linen for the smallest layers, once it was made I rubbed the walnut stain DI pad over some of the edges of the petals to finish it off.
I sanded down the edges and added some walnut stain DI to age it even more and some shabby ribbon scrumpled with tumbled glass and stormy sky DIs, it was then finished.
At the end of the workshop I managed to take some photos on the iphone, the light is not good but you will see hoe lovely these turned out with the different colour paints people chose to use.
If you follow A Vintage Journey the new challenge winner and pinworthy mentions are up today, please go take a look to see the wonderful projects the Creative Guides have chosen.
Have a great weekend.
