A Compendium of Curiosities - Bee Happy

Happy Sunday everyone and bee happy.

Before I get onto my card for today I can't wait to see all the creations Team A have made at One Stitch at a Time. The new challenge starts today has been a 'challenging' one in every sense of the word. Go take a look and see if it takes your fancy. Always up for a challenge aren't we?

For me I have been inspired by Annette to take a look at Studio L3 and the challenges which are all things Tim. This week, Linda's challenge is P.49 in the Compendium of Curiosities and Shabby Chic. Of course TH and shabby - well I couldn't resist could I - but actually although I have used the technique here, I wouldn't say my card is particularly shabby chic. But even so I am pleased with the way it came out. I also used the layout from Sketch Saturday.

This is how the technique worked for me. I used my TH bee stamp properly for the first time and had several goes at this before I was happy with it. The first one I made I used clear embossing powder over gold acrylic paint and then put copper over the top so there wasn't enough contrast. So for this one I stamped the bee using distress embossing ink on dark blue card and added clear powder. Then I painted both the gold and the copper over it in two seperate layers. This has given it a metallic look and you can see the shades of the colours where I have rubbed them off to reveal the dark blue bees. I edged around with cinnamon stickles. Next time I will try a pattern like Tim and use the black acrylic paint and a shabby colour on top.

So this is how the card looks. The backing paper is Basic Grey and I edged it with vintage photo DI and cosmic shimmer aqua twinkles (I thought the gold stickles would be too much here). I also used the TH distressing tool. The top and bottom strips are made from red paper also edged with the vintage photo and aqua twinkles, I added some ribbon and twine and sewed over these to give a different effect. The roses are made of ribbon and bought from one of my local craft shops but I also added vintage photo to age them. The sentiment is mine - just produced in Word.

Hope you like my new creation. Enjoy the rest of your day and have a good week.
