Moth Wings are so beautiful

A project for Country View Crafts - 'Winging-it' themed Facebook challenge, November 2024.

 

Take a piece of Tim Holtz scrapbook paper for the background and dip in puddles of faded jeans and frayed burlap. Dry, then roughen the edges  and blend over with faded jeans and scorched timber.

Gather neutral papers for a collage.

Tie a small bundle of sprayed dried and sprayed seedheads, add white berry.

Assemble together, paint small cones with a topping of white paint.

The sentiment I chose reflects how I feel about the world at the moment, not because it is coming up Christmas. I'll be making my Christmas cards in the next few weeks.

My winged element is one of the Tim Holtz moths which I always find too shiny for me so I have given it a coat of matte collage medium.

The splatters on the edges of the frames are cut from some 49 and Market Rub-0n transfers

Once everything has been glued into the frame splatter with some watery white acrylic paint and add cones and snow.

I have made this piece for Jacque at Scroll's Work Stamps as so sadly she is having to close the store. If you click the link and go over you will see that she currently has 40% off the whole range and more reductions through June and July. She had arranged for me to be a GD for June, so I am just squeezing this in.

I have used the SW Pegasus stamp and created a magical and mystical world as a background for it using a free digital download from Gaby Cajubrasil and a castle from The Graphic Fairy. I used the challenge at Sir Stampalot as inspiration, which runs for the whole of May.

Supplies-
White acrylic paint
DIs - aged mahogany, walnut stain, pumice stone, scattered straw
Stickles - star dust
Promarkers
Glamour dust
Hessian and lint
Stamps - Scrolls Work, Le Blanche

The background edges were inked with walnut stain lightly and then stamped over with a flourish stamp using white acrylic paint and DI mixed together, then edged again with pumice stone.

Hessian and lint with edged torn music sheet added next, and then the castle picture, edged with aged mahogany and stickles, mounted and stuck to the top.

Pegasus was stamped with DI watercoloured with DIs and then went over with promarkers in places to give more depth. Glamour dust was added to the wings.

I finished off by adding some little strips of vellum, lace and distressed paper with a pearl.

LIIU - Embellish It

Welcome to another long bank holiday weekend here in the UK and I am showcasing my DT contribution for LIIU. The theme for this fortnight is - Embellish It - and the sponsor is Anna Belle Stamps  http://www.annabellestamps.com/.  AnnaBelle Stamps is an Australian craft business and offer their own exclusive line of clear photopolymer stamps made in the U.S.A., Digi stamps and papers, as well as gorgeous embellishments, twines and ribbons!  They also have weekly challenges on their blog and twice monthly a blog hop featuring one of the newly released sets with prizes!

My piece, called 'Inspire', has  numerous techniques involved in the making, -  colour wash over torn paper pieces, masking and misting, cracked paint effect, texturing with muslin AND I lost count of the number of layers of paint, ink, fabric, paper, frame, cut out stamp etc. It started as a piece of recycled card from a box and then to finish and embellish it I have used punches, glitter, pearls, butterfly, buttons, flowers and a bead. I haven't made it into a card or a hanging, but I have simply left it as a piece of art.

There are at least 5 layers on this part alone. The butterfly is a MS punch. The wings are from the TH Heart Wings die.

I used TH scallops on the edge die and Spellbinders 12" classic lace border. On the fragment piece I used alcohol inks, stamped a butterfly with archival ink and rubbed it off to see the image through the inks. I also used TH Lost and Found paper stash and cut out vintage photo mages and stuck behind the film strip.

25th Anniversary - MAWTT challenge 60

Hi everyone - wow do these Thursdays come around quickly.

But of course Thursday is a new challenge day over at MAWTT and this week the lovely Hazel has set the  theme - All That Glitters. No sketch to follow this week but with such a fab focus for creating glittery and shiny cards - who needs one?

The sponsor this week is my friend Stitchy from Stitchy Bear Stamps and I have used a digi that I won on a One Stitch at a Time challenge blog, before I became a DT member for them. It is called Miss Wings and I just love this cute bear with it's little wings, even my husband commented on what a great image it is (and he's never done that before!!!!), so it was great fun to colour her up and use it on this card. Do go take a peep at what she has in her store.

I made the card for some friends who have recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary and sadly we couldn't go to their celebration as we were on holiday, but we hope Donna and Jimmy had a wonderful party and wish them every happiness in their next 25 and more years together.

As you can see I have gone quite shiny and glittery with this card but I am so pleased with the effects. I started by choosing my DPs which set the colours for me and in many ways it is quite monotone. I have used a MS punch, Nestabilities labels 2, embellishments from my stash. The ticket is one from Lindsay's stamp stuff and I actually changed the words using Photoshop Elements so that it fitted for my card. I decorated the inside but kept it very simple to contrast with the outside. All the DPs and the ticket are edged with stickles and the wings, feet and ears on the image have been glittered. I also used stickles on the bubbles of the champagne.

Cream Tea - Limited Resources

Hello everyone, I promised to show you the cards I made while I was on holiday with Mum in Swanage earlier in June/July.

This is one of the cards.  I had taken very limited resources with me, but I had put some of my own 'packs' together each one in a separate bag which included the image, some papers and some embellishments. I had picked up a new paper pack the day before I left and put it in a tub wondering if it might come in useful. It is the Papermania Rose Garden paper pack and the designs are lovely and very shabby chic. I had been looking at postcards (as you do when you are on holiday) and I found this one which was called 'West Country Cream Tea'. I hadn't taken any plain coloured papers with me and there is a very small craft shop in the town where I bought some pearlised papers which included the pink at the bottom. I cut and distressed the postcard and added cosmic shimmer aqua twinkles and mounted it onto a piece of green left over from another card which I edged with shabby shutters crackle paint.  

I made the embellishments with bits I had taken with me and the little ribbon roses were a last minute add in before I left, but the colours didn't look right, so I painted them with some white acrylic paint I had bought in Swanage and added the cosmic twinkles to them. The change is just perfect and made the card look so much better.

 I had great fun making the little embellishment with wings - just shows how creative you can be when you have so little to play with.          

I love the pennant lace, my Mum wasn't sure it fitted but I think it does, especially with the little gems in between each piece.

Mum's Scrapbook Page

Hi All

After making my little piece for the previous CoC challenge at Studio L3 I said I would make it into a scrapbook page, and I have. In that post I told the story of why I had chosen certain elements for the tinted vision board and thought I would carry this through to the whole page itself.

Mum's favourite colours are yellow, orange, in fact all autumnal colours, so that is the theme I have kept with for the page and papers. I added the small butterfly that I had somehow missed originally on the photo and die cut the large TH fanciful flight. I think it looks rather nice, and I have used a MS punch for the smaller ones.

You will recognise alot of the materials by Lord Tim of Holtz (as I have seen him called), the ticket, the heart, the wings, the flourish and the bracket edge.   The hearts and the love ticket represent the family, we are a very close knit immediate family and also keep links with some of the cousins (Mums nieces and nephews) and their families. The flowers represent her love of gardening and growing plants (Dad did all the veg when he was alive).     Mum never had the opportunity to fly and to visit other countries during her life except twice, once with Dad when they took a helicopter ride to the Scilly Isles and once when she went with my sister to California. She just loved the experience and still talks about it today. Even though she struggles to walk, she would love to fly again, so the wings show her desire for this. The tape measure is very significant to me, Mum always made her own and especially mine and my sister's clothes as we were growing up and she passed the love of the sewing machine onto me. I didn't ever take it further but I learnt from her and used to make mine and my children's clothes when they were very little and when we couldn't afford very much. It is amazing what you can recycle. I don't make clothes any more but I have been using my machine for my card making. So there it is an account of the background to this scrapbook page. I have left the journaling space blank at the moment, but will write information in when I show Mum.

The papers have come from different places. The main 12x12 is from a pack I brought from Costco a long time ago. The flowery one is a vintage download and the bracket journaling paper, along with the flowers, leaves and bulldog clip are digital files I have just bought from Shabby Miss Jen. (I have only just found this on-line shop and just love the designs for papers and embellishments she has.) On this occasion I have printed them and cut them out, but I will certainly experiment more with my own papers and layouts now I have these to play with.

Happy First Birthday - 'Moving Along With The Times' - Celebrating with a Blog Hop and anything but a card.

Happy birthday to MAWTT, happy birthday to MAWTT - woo hoo.

It's our first birthday and to celebrate we are having a BLOG HOP for you to enjoy. If you have arrived from the MAWTT challenge site to participate in the competition then you have arrived at the right place. Firstly have a look at my creation for the challenge this week. We were asked to produce something that is not a card, has a Gorjuss Girl on it and that has a birthday theme. One of my grandaughters has a birthday coming up at the beginning of July (and she is a gorgeous girl) so I thought I would alter a photo frame, add the Gorjuss image to it and put in a photo of her taken recently when we went to Seaton.

The frame is one of those very inexpensive white 6x4 frames from Ikea. I thought I would go very bright and girly for this one. The paper came from my stack that I have in my craft room and I really must keep them organised so that I know where they are from. I chose some ribbon which came from a set from QVC a long time ago. The bow I made from seam binding and added a little pink pin and green flower charm. I used pink wings, a pink heart and a pink star with a turquoise MS punched butterfly covered in star dust stickles in the bottom right hand corner. .... and of course I stamped and coloured the pretty Gorjuss Girl image and added to it. Three pink gems just gave it the finishing touch.
