 Spring Into Life Apple Blossom Frame

This is a second inspiration project for the Country View Crafts challenge of 'Spring into Life'. I have used the same set of Alison's stamps as I used for my previous project, showing how versatile her stamps can be.

I used Alison Bomber tissue paper from PaperArtsy, cut the blossom part and adhere it to green card and dry. 

Paint the blossom using the the paints and again dry. Make a wash of snowflake and paint it around the blossom lightly and again dry.

Stamp large and small apple blossom stamps using archival ink onto watercolour paper and paint. Dry and slightly cut around the large blossom images so they separate from the leaves. Then spritz water on the back of them and carefully squeeze leaves and blossoms to give them some shape.

Add some textured card to the photo frame and blend some distress oxides over it, spritz and dry. Then brayer one coat of the snowflake paint over it.

Edge all the flowers with brown distress ink and adhere pieces to the frame.

I now have a winter and a summer frame for displaying in my conservatory at the appropriate times of year. I think I will be looking to make a Summer and Autumn one as well.

Alison Bomber workshop playtime

 I went to Country View Crafts to see my friend Alison Bomber as she was doing a workshop there I didn't participate in the workshop but I have had fun recreating some of the  samples and techniques she did with the participants,with my own twists of course. (I can't provide process steps as these were Alison's steps. not mine)

This part of the workshop was about creating three backgrounds using her berries stencil, three paints - see listed below, and infusions.

Add a collage of snippets, text/titles and paperdolls.

Happy May Day

I have chosen the theme for the CVC FaceBook challenge and it's to create a project that looks aged, weathered, distressed or timeworn.

AGED - to have become old and showing some age.

WEATHERED - worn by long exposure to the atmosphere; weather beaten.

DISTRESSED - having simulated marks of age and wear.

TIMEWORN- damaged or made less interesting or attractive as a result of age or much use.

My panel is vintage, shabby, distressed, looking aged and timeworn. I think I covered the brief.

Seal surface with a layer of gesso. Dry.

Paint a layer of brown acrylic Fresco Finish paint. Dry.

Stamp and clear emboss. 

Paint over with a lighter colour. Dry but leave it still a little tacky.

Wipe over with a wet wipe to remove the paint from the embossing and rub harder over the painted areas to reveal some of the brown showing through underneath.

Dip into watery puddles of brown distress inks and dry.

Sand around the edges and rub over with vintage photo distress ink ink.

This creates a shabby, weathered, distressed background.

Gather together items to create a collage.

I paint the moths with collage medium to take off the shine, I much prefer matte items.

I painted on a little green distress ink, mixed with collage medium, to the dress on the paper doll and a little tattered rose, also mixed with collage medium, to her skin, to add a little colour.

I also add extras as I'm putting the design together and here there are extra snippets and some TH film strip, plus a small piece of border coloured green.

PaperArtsy Mini printer Tray

Hi everyone, I have a guest project over on the PaperArtsy blog tonight.

I used a Tando mini printers tray and had great fun creating a little scrapbooking project which turned out completely different to what I had imagined, but there goes my creative muse with a mind of her own and taking me off in a different direction, but that’s what so exciting about creating your own art isn’t it?

The photos are of my children, Ben and Maddie when they were much smaller and of my dear Mum and Dad.

Hanging Heart – Create a story of soulful moments

Well August is marching on, I can't believe how quickly the months are going. Autumn is just round the corner.

I have an altered wooden heart for you today, you know the ones you can pick up for about £1.50 in the Range. I’ve tried to keep it fairly light in colour but with a vintage shabby style.

Process steps

Scrape Fresco Finish paints in chocolate, stone, vintage lace and cream over the heart and let dry.

Paint over some PaperArtsy metallic glaze and old gold FF paint.

Edge the heart with the old gold.

Splat a little victorian velvet and dried marigold distress stains on the craft mat and dip the heart in one colour at a time, mist lightly and let colour drip then heat dry, repeat for the next colour.

Make up the embellishments – the book plate, heart, bottle, metal wings and top hat were given a coat of gesso to seal them. When dry they were coated with clear distress crackle paint along with the flower, bead and butterfly.

They were all coloured with victorian velvet, dried marigold, rusty hinge and walnut stain distress stains.

The muse token,pen nib and washer were given the rusted treatment using crafty notions rusting powder.

Blend some Onyxite treasure gold over the rusted items and the neck of the bottle.

Cut a star from the industrious stickers and push into the coffee archival ink pad to colour it brown.

Distress the TH ticket, cut to shape to fit inside the bookplate.

Colour the crinoline flower with the distress stains.

Using the stuff to say set of TH stamps stamp the long set of words and cut out the ones you want for your personal quote. Edge them with walnut stain DI.

Now we are ready to assemble it all together. I was tempted to add some stamping, remnant rubs and/or texture paste to the background but in the end I didn’t because I wanted the distressed elements to stand out on the grungy base.

Scrapping in my Journal

Hi Everyone I am really pleased to guesting again at PaperArtsy tonight. When Darcy asked me a few weeks ago what I was making I told her it would be something around ‘scrapping in my journal’ as I wanted to use the really zingy colours in the Fresco Finish paints range with photographs. This is not quite how I imagined it then, but I am pleased with the fabulous bright background mixed with my more normal vintage style. I think it has worked really well. Before anyone asks lol, the photo on the left is me (looks as though I was about 3-4) and the photo on the right is my Mum holding me.

Please be warned this is a long post, but I hope you will stay with me to the end.

So to start off cut two pieces of card and using low tack tape secured them together. Cover both pages with a layer of gesso to seal the card.

Rub London Bus, Tango and Zesty Zing Fresco Finish paints over the page with a few mists of water and a wet babywipe to help blend them. Heat dry.

Then spray with Goosebumps to create some texture and again heat dry. I then  used two of my spare spray bottles and mixed a watery London Bus in one and the other with Zesty Zing and sprayed over the pages heat drying between each colour. Lastly I finishes with a couple of sprays of White Linen Dylusions ink spray.

To add some interest to the pages I stamped with the Hot Picks 1301EZ set using three different brown archival inks.

I began to collect together some strips of hessian, canvas, card, and lace to create some textures and I also die-cut some of the PaperArtsy Chatsworth paper using the Tim Holtz Courtyard frameworks die. I used the Fresco Finish paints again but this time I watered them down in little mister bottles and sprayed them over to blend the colours.

And so the pages started to take shape.

I painted and sprayed the die cuts and pieces of card to make the sentiments.

I cut out some butterflies that I have ready downloaded in a small box and I pulled out some rusted elements to see how they would fit in.

I also sprayed some strips of embossed canvas and gathered some other pieces and a snippet of hessian together..

The colour of the frameworks didn’t fit in the way I thought they would so I sprayed them with watered down FF chocolate paint as well.

Next came the assembling and I started with some tissue tapes before gluing the strips down and adding the photos.

For the penultimate stage I added some dylusions ink to the London Bus spray to deepen it a bit more and covered the photos, spraying in three areas and heat drying. I then added some splatters of walnut crystal ink. Of course I got carried away here and forgot to take any more photos till nearly the end.

Lastly I cut the pages apart, cropodiled the holes at the right places and finished with some chatty words that I make up myself and print out.

The pages are now inserted into my growing ‘scrapping’ journal.

I love how the vintage meets journal style, it’s a bright and busy background but the vintage seems to be right at home too.

I thought I would also share with you tonight that it is Ken's birthday today and I want to wish him many happy returns of the day, but it is also a very special day in that we got married 40 years ago on his birthday in 1974 and I am just wondering where have all those years gone???? Needless to say we are looking forward to many more happy years together creating memories.
