Winter scene 1 for Country View Crafts - Tim Holtz die-cuts

A Wintry Scene for Country View Crafts

Rachel has chosen Wintry Scenes for the January Challenge at Country View Crafts Challenges on FaceBook. I had great fun with two of the Tim Holtz dies to create the picture and with the distress watercolor pencils and some distress inks and spritz to get the depth and perspective.

Die cut 2 tree lines and glue them onto card stock overlapping a second part beneath the first layer.

Take the paints, using a brush with plenty of clean water, use the paints like watercolours to create a sky. With a small piece of sponge dab the colours over the trees to fill in any gaps on the overlap and to make it look like a cold, misty morning. Dry that and splatter white to create snowfall.

Using white card cut a slope of snow, using a paint brush apply texture paste lightly over it to make it look like snow laying on the ground. Splatter with chipped sapphire DI and adhere to the bottom of the card.

Cut the birch trees from white card and give them a coat of white paint.

Play with the DIs, DOs and watercolor pencils to make the birch trees more realistic and cut into them to create 3 individual ones.

Add some watery brown DI to some gaps between the trees, paint some spritz over the tops of the trees too and add more sponged white paint to keep the look of snow. Dry.

..... and then glue the birch trees on the panel.
Finish by using a stick to paint in some dried grasses.

One wintry scene complete.
Ink the edges, add a sentiment and make it into a card.

Peace Christmas Card

 Berry Delicious

Blended pumice stone and hickory smoke distress inks over the card. Made a puddle of each colour and dipped, dripped and dried the distress inks.

I stamped the holly and the berries stamps....

....with watering can archival ink ....

.... and stamped the text with coffee archival ink.

Using the watercolour pencils I coloured and painted some of the leaves and all of the berries to make them stand out.
I then grabbed a silver sparkle Sakura Gelly Roll pen and a black unipin pen and added some details.

I found the silver 'Peace', the icicles and greeting in my supplies, added them to the card and mounted onto green cardstock.

This is off to a crafty friend for Christmas

Using stencils 2 for Country View Crafts

Stencils and distress watercolor pencils go well together.

I used a simple method with dry DWPs on a dry stencil, then spritzed it with water ready to monoprint. It's a fabulous technique and you can get a different effect each time depending on how much colour you rub onto the stencil, how much water you spritz and how long you hold the stencil on the paper. A GREAT TIP here is to place a piece of kitchen paper over the stencil once you have laid it down, rub gently over it and it will soak up any of the watery paint that seeps out.

I added the new Tim Holtz collage strips to the base card to start me off.
Gathered bits of ephemera, snippets and a photo booth pic which I encased in a specimen slide cut from TH specimen dies. After some playing and moving around the collage came together with the stencil panel in full show.

Using Stencils with Distress Watercolor Pencils - Deco Feather stencil and flower design

It's my turn to post over at the Country View Craft Challenge on FaceBook and I have chosen the theme of 'Stencils'. There are just so many ways they can be utilised and in my latest workshops at CVC Headquarters I was teaching about the Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Pencils and I focussed quite a lot on monoprinting.

On my card the larger panel background was made using the Nordic stencil and the wet pencils on the dry stencil technique - spritz lightly with water and monoprint onto the substrate - in this case mixed media paper.

The small panel using mini deco leaf stencil in various greens was again using wet to dry ie wet DWP paint to dry stencil.

The die-cut flowers were washed with clean water and dribbles of DWP puddles added in with a small brush.

To put the panel together I added some snippets....

....some inked mummy cloth and a Tim stamped sentiment.

Seaside Project 2 - Tim Holtz Seahorse frame for Country View Crafts

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

'Anything Seaside' is still a challenge title for June at Country View Challenges on FaceBook.

My choice has been to decorate and make a frame that sits nicely with the idea of being beside the sea on a lovely summer's day.

I love to use up scraps and inky backgrounds and some shapes have been reworked with leftovers taken from my bits folders. I have also used a number of older dies and stamp sets.

Seahorse cut from TH Sand and Sea Bigz die. Not readily available any more. Stencilled with the new mini leaf stencil using distress crackle paste sprinkled with Tattered Rose distress glaze. Later I sanded the texture and rubbed over vintage photo and unchartered mariner distress inks.

Starfish stamped and cut using Nautical Blueprint CMS194 and Rusty Hinge, Ripe Persimmon and Scattered Straw Distress Watercolour Pencils. Dried and overstamped with Vermillion archival and Scorched Timber distress ink. Over that I applied distress crackle paste and when the crackles had appeared and it was dry I rubbed in walnut stain distress ink.

The frame and background in the aperture were created just by dipping into DWP puddles and drying. Distress crackle paste was applied round the edges and had unchartered mariner rubbed into them when dry. Splattered with white ink.

The sentiment is my own, produced on the computer.

Watercolour painting with Distress Watercolor Pencils on Botanical Collage Tissue Paper

A second project for Country View Challenges on FaceBook and the theme for  April is still Flower Power

I have created another panel for my Distres Watercolour Pencils (DWPs) Sketchbook.

I used an old Tim Holtz die called 'File Tabs' to cut the top of a piece of white card and adhered a piece of the botanical tissue paper with decoupage matte glue. Using a water brush the images and background were painted with the distress watercolour pencils using both a palette and taking colour direct from the pencils themselves.

I altered the photobooth picture of the lady using the DWPs so that it reflected the colours of the flowers and berries and helped her to look as though she belonged on the  panel. As the surface of the photo was shiny the watercolours didn't want to blend and lay on the surface so I gave it a coat of matte medium first.

The little collage adds interest and completes the panel. It also uses a number of Tim Holtz products.
