Eileen Hull Journal
When Rust and Nature Collide
Time needed – a full day, 10 – 4 with about 45 minutes for lunch.

For this workshop Brenda is going to be showcasing the brand new and already very popular Scoreboards XL Journal Die from Eileen Hull. Come and find out how she designed this fabulous project in her timeworn style and created textured layers for the front cover. Although Brenda has made this green and yellow oxide coloured journal she encourages you to choose your own to give it that more personal touch so we will have number of different colours available to you.
Please note that the workshop time will be taken for making the journal and the decorative elements on the front cover, there will not be time to make any inserts for it. If you would like to bring papers the double pages need to be 81/2 inches across and 81/4 inches long with the 81/2 inch sided folded to make pages 41/4 x 81/4. We will have a long arm stapler ready to make your pages into signatures and elastic ready for you to add your inserts when you have finished.
Whilst everyone begins from the same starting point and with the same supplies you know you will go home with a project quite special and unique to you. This workshop is suitable for those new to working in mixed media and using acrylic paints as well as those who have more experience, however we do presuppose that you have some knowledge and experience with crafting and are looking to extend yours skills and expertise. Whatever level you are at Brenda, who is a trained teacher, will demonstrate, advise and support you throughout the whole process.

Attendees will  –
-          Learn four different techniques/ways to create old and timework effects using DecoArt media fluid acrylic paints and mediums and distress ink. These are -  a quick way to give a rusty treatment to your substrate; give card an aged tarnished silver look; a scratched paint effect and a textured gritty effect.
-          Use paint and gold metallic lustre to give a realistic look to the die-cut bees.
-          Paint and assemble the journal ready to take three sets of signatures or traveller notebooks (Midori style).

Weathered, shabby frame.
Inspire Me Vintage
Time needed – a full day, 10 – 4 with about 45 minutes for lunch.

Hot on the success of teaching at Ministry of Mixology last November Brenda is offering her shabby, vintage frame as a full day workshop. This frame has been designed by Brenda and is available to buy/order from Tando Creative. The mount for the vintage photo looks like weathered boards and is a technique created by Brenda and helps to achieve the vintage/timeworn look that she so loves.

Whilst everyone starts from the same starting point you will have the opportunity and time to create a shabby mottled back ground (including additional layers to those shown on the photograph here), the weathered boards, rusty hinges and a fabulous crackled frame.

Brenda is a trained teacher and loves nothing more than to demonstrate and teach in a class, group or one-to-one situation to ensure you get the most from the learning experience and go home with a unique project.

. This workshop is suitable for those new to working in mixed media and using acrylic paints as well as those who have more experience, however we do presuppose that you have some knowledge and experience with crafting and are looking to extend yours skills and expertise.

A mixed-media shadowbox
‘Discover’
Time needed – a half day, 10.00 – 1.30  including a 15 minute coffee break.
(This could become a 9.30 – 1.00 including a 15 minute coffee break if preferred)

Many people love using winged elements like butterflies and dragonflies in their mixed media projects and they are usually characterised in their ‘natural’ colour schemes but Brenda loves to mix things up a bit and explore other ways of representing them in her art. So she has created a background that is very much like an abstract painting but here she used chalky finish paints rather than acrylics, watercolours or oils. The winged creatures have been made to portray unique ‘rusty’ species of their natural form but are of course stamped and die-cut representations.

Brenda is a trained teacher and loves nothing more than to demonstrate and teach in a class, group or one-to-one situation to ensure you get the most from the learning experience and go home with a unique project. At the ned of the session you will leave with a gorgeous 8 x 8 inch shadowbox to hang on your wall or give someone as a gift.

. This workshop is suitable for those new to working in mixed media and using chalk paints as an artist medium  as well as those who have more experience, however we do presuppose that you have some knowledge and experience with crafting and are looking to extend yours skills and expertise.

A textured, altered frame.
‘Under the Sea’
Time needed – a full day, 10 – 4 with about 45 minutes for lunch.

How about this workshop where you can create this fun summery project with a sea theme to it with textures and techniques galore? Come and use fabrics, paints, texture glaze, cabochons, die-cuts and chipboard pieces to achieve this underwater scene with the gorgeous seahorse as the focal point or perhaps maybe you prefer the crab?  You will create layers of medium and paints for the background and have fun texturizing fabric to help create that look of sunken lost fishnets and ropes creating hidey holes for crustacean to live. This would look fabulous hanging in your cloakroom or bathroom for the summer.

Brenda loves her DecoArt products and as a member of the DecoArt Media Design Team she enjoys looking for ways to make them work for mixed media applications. As always you start at the same point everyone else will in the workshop but you end up with something that’s all your own and unique to you. Brenda will always encourage you to put it together your way and will give you as much help and advice as you need to do that.

This workshop is suitable for those new to working in mixed media and using acrylic paints as well as those who have more experience, however we do presuppose that you have some knowledge and experience with crafting and are looking to extend yours skills and expertise.

A mixed-media canvas
‘Fall out of Summer’
Time needed – a full day, 10 – 4 with about 45 minutes for lunch.

This canvas was designed and created by Brenda for DecoArt and published in the Craft Stamper magazine last year. The Editor of the magazine loved it so much she made it the front cover design and then invited Brenda to be a member of the Craft Stamper Design Team. Brenda was thrilled and of course she said yes.  Although you can read the step by steps in the magazine it’s not quite the same as being taught by the artist herself who has a wealth of knowledge and ideas to share with you as you proceed to learn how to create the beautiful textured background and add the wonderful embellishments over the top.

Come and take a class with Brenda who will teach, support and guide you through all the steps needed for you to make your own version of this fabulous design.  Change the textures, alter the colours and mix up the layout to suit you and go home with a gorgeous canvas to put on the wall at home.

This workshop is suitable for those new to working in mixed media and using chalk paints as an artist medium  as well as those who have more experience, however we do presuppose that you have some knowledge and experience with crafting and are looking to extend yours skills and expertise.

A mixed-media canvas or box
‘Fragile Winter’
Time needed – a full day, 10 – 4 with about 45 minutes for lunch.

This is another Craft Stamper project that came in two parts – the background was in the magazine and the snowflakes were shown and described on their blog.

I haven’t yet put this together as a workshop but I was thinking I might use the techniques and snowflakes to decorate a winter box for a 'coming up to Christmas' project.

If you are interested in this as a workshop let me know – canvas or box – and I will get it worked out.
